Wifi Map is a community-driven, decentralised network that provides users with 4.5 billion WiFi hotspots around the world. According to CMC, the Web2 app, which has been live for around 9 years, has over 150 million downloads. The team are now expanding into Web3 to increase their reach and user base.
The app has several uses. For $9.99 a year you can can access information about WiFi spots in any given city or town, and can even download a map which shows you these places offline. It also provides a VPN service if you want to do a few cheeky trades abroad. And for an additional fee, it offers an eSim service if you are in need of dat abroad.
On the Web3 side, you can buy the token on a number of exchanges and can earn tokens by adding info to the app or tip others who provide you with useful information.
I'm travelling in Croatia so I downloaded and tested the app here. It was great that it provided me information on all of the WiFi spots in my nearby town but as almost all of the pubs, cafes and restaurants have WiFi, I do wonder if this tech was more useful a few years ago and is maybe a bit outdated now? Perhaps it would be more useful outside of Europe? Show Less
