Glassnode classifies Bitcoin holders by the size of their holdings, ranging from "shrimps," who own less than 1 BTC, to "humpback whales," who hold over 5,000 BTC.
The other categories include crabs,octopi , fish, dolphins, and "sharks"
Smaller investors, like shrimps, collectively own less than 5% of the total Bitcoin supply. In contrast, whales control almost a third of all mined Bitcoin, with humpback whales holding around 40% of that share. Miners possess nearly 10% of the overall supply, while exchanges hold 12.7%.
Despite this, most Bitcoin holders are small investors. According to Grayscale's November 2023 report, 74% of Bitcoin addresses hold less than 0.01 BTC. Show Less
