The crypto entrepreneur ate the “artwork” banana he purchased for $6.2 million.

The conceptual artwork created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was sold at auction in New York last week. Crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun fulfilled the promise he made after spending $6.2 million (£4.88 million) on a piece of art featuring a banana taped to a wall. He ate the banana he purchased for the exorbitant sum.

At one of the most expensive hotels in Hong Kong, 34-year-old Sun took a bite out of the banana in front of dozens of journalists and influencers after giving a speech in which he praised the artwork as “iconic” and drew parallels between conceptual art and cryptocurrencies.

“It’s much better than other bananas”

“It’s much better than other bananas,” said Sun, who was born in China, after tasting it for the first time. “It’s actually very good.”

Titled Comedian, the conceptual artwork by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was sold last week at a Sotheby’s auction in New York, with Sun being among the seven bidders. Show Less
