Polymarket Bettors Shuffle Odds of Bitcoin's Creator Reveal Ahead of HBO Documentary

I've been following the speculation surrounding the upcoming HBO documentary on Satoshi Nakamoto, and it’s been fascinating to see how quickly the odds shifted on Len Sassaman being revealed as Bitcoin’s creator. At one point, his odds on Polymarket soared to 55%, but everything changed after his widow, Meredith L. Patterson, publicly dismissed the idea. She confirmed that Sassaman wasn’t Nakamoto and mentioned that the filmmakers hadn’t even contacted her for the documentary. Following her comments, his odds dropped sharply to just 14%. I think her straightforward response—especially her bold statement in the DLNews interview—was enough to deflate a lot of the speculation.

What surprises me is how fast these rumors escalated. People were creating memecoins named after Sassaman, and even after his cat, which started trending in crypto circles. Patterson, meanwhile, was fielding messages from people asking for confirmation, and she responded with a Solana address for token donations. It just shows how eager the crypto community is to latch onto any potential hint, no matter how flimsy.

Sassaman wasn’t the only name being thrown around either. Samson Mow, a well-known Bitcoin advocate, suggested that Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream and an early Bitcoin developer, might be Nakamoto. Nick Szabo, another prominent figure, briefly led the Polymarket odds as well. The constant back-and-forth between these candidates makes it clear how speculative all of this really is—there’s still no solid evidence linking any of them to Nakamoto.

The betting frenzy on Polymarket is proof of how much people are still captivated by the mystery of Nakamoto’s identity. Millions of dollars have been wagered in the last 24 hours alone, with the “Other/Multiple” category now leading with 56% of the bets. Sassaman’s odds have dropped to 13%, and Adam Back trails with just over 11%.

In the end, it’s remarkable how little we still know about Nakamoto after all these years, and while the documentary might shed some light, I wouldn’t be surprised if the mystery continues. Either way, the speculation and the drama are keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.
