Developer Ports Tornado Cash Protocol to MegaETH Testnet After OFAC Sanctions Removal

A developer pseudonymously known as Gunboats has ported the privacy-focused cryptocurrency tool Tornado Cash to the MegaETH blockchain’s public testnet, renaming it ETHTornado. This move follows the U.S. Treasury’s removal of Tornado Cash from the OFAC sanctions list, prompted by a court ruling and a reassessment of sanctions on decentralized finance platforms. MegaETH, a high-performance blockchain, can handle up to 20,000 transactions per second. The deployment, done using the outdated Truffle framework, was described as “half a joke” by Gunboats, who dismissed concerns about wallet “dusting” and legal risks, though they noted the lack of a user-friendly frontend as a barrier to adoption. The Treasury, while lifting sanctions, emphasized ongoing efforts to combat illicit digital asset use, particularly by North Korea. MegaETH’s community head, Bread, welcomed the project’s addition to their wiki. Show Less
