USDC Becomes Native Stablecoin on Sony's Soneium Blockchain

USDC Expands to Soneium

Circle is bringing its USDC stablecoin to the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, Soneium, aiming to make it a key token for transactions on the network. Using Circle's Bridged USDC Standard, USDC will seamlessly integrate with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchains.

Sony's Blockchain Vision

Soneium, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, is a versatile blockchain designed for entertainment, gaming, and finance. Sony’s chairman, Jun Watanabe, believes the partnership will transform the digital ecosystem. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire echoed that sentiment, saying the collaboration will boost USDC adoption and Web3 experiences.

USDC's Growing Influence

As USDC continues to expand, it's making waves in other networks like Coinbase’s Base. Over the past 30 days, its transfer volume hit $587 billion. With a circulating supply of $35 billion, it's the second-largest stablecoin in the market.

But will this move truly solidify USDC's dominance in the crypto space?
